Alpha Mu Chi PTK members attend leadership conference

Members of Alpha Mu Chi, Northeast Texas Community College’s five-star, award-winning chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, attended and participated in the Texas Regional Leadership Conference held at East Texas Baptist University Oct. 12-14.
A total of 381 members from throughout the Texas Region gathered together to listen to thought-provoking presentations on leadership, engage in interactive skill building activities, and participate in seminar group discussions.

Chapter president Rhylie Anderson and chapter Vice-President of Communication Lilly Haack presented a workshop on “scholarship” with members from Tyler Junior College.
Alumni member Isaac Burris, Associate Director of Programming for the Texas Region, helped out behind the scenes to ensure that the event went smoothly.

Dr. Melissa Fulgham, NTCC’s chapter lead adviser, served as a facilitator in the breakout sessions which focused on developing leadership skills.

Rhylie Anderson was recognized as a five-star member. At the conclusion of the event, the Walter B. Cooper Scholarships were given out to recognize “well-rounded” members who represented the four Hallmarks of Phi Theta Kappa: scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship. Alpha Mu Chi member Jazmin Garcia received the top scholarship, valued at $750.
Garcia is the fifth NTCC student to receive the prestigious award in as many years.
