It is not every day that Northeast Texas Community College Students walk into the Student Union Building to the sights and sounds of music, dancing, crafting, free buttons and sugar cookies galore. The brainchild of NTCC’s new director of Student Development, Ja’Quacy Minter, “Love in the SUB” was a first of its kind event held on campus for Valentine’s Day. “Love in the Sub was a significant milestone for me,” Minter said. “What began as a simple sketch became one of the most successful events since the Scare Affair.”

Over 150 students participated in the festivities, with a variety of activities including bracelet making, palate classes, giveaways, sugar cookie decorations and dancing. “I wanted to show the different kinds of love we have in this campus community,” Minter said. “Whether it’s academic, professional or personal. The love in this community is the strongest. That’s why we’ve been here for 40 years, and that’s why we’ll be here for 40 more.”

Students and Minter alike are looking to the future for upcoming events. “Glow Crazy: A Glow in The Dark Party” comes on the heels of Love in the SUB, scheduled for 7 p.m. on February 25 and set to take place in room 101 of the Student Union Building. “This glow-filled evening will be an exciting celebration you won’t want to miss,” said Minter. Minter encouraged students to watch their email and social media for details that will follow in the coming days.
