Fall 2025 marks the 40-year anniversary of Northeast Texas Community College’s opening. Students were recently welcomed on the campus plaza the first day of school by members of the Student Government Association and newly appointed President Dr. Kevin Rose and members of his cabinet.

SGA members provided students with snacks, refreshments and personal invitations to some of the upcoming campus events. Ja’Quacy Minter, director of Student Development, described SGA as a “close-knit family” devoted to the student-body at NTCC.

As a message to new students who may feel out of place on campus, SGA officer Josalynn Patterson encouraged new students to open up, talk to people and make friends, noting that she has found her family within her academic community.

To show his support, Rose provided transportation between classes to help ease any anxiety that students might be experiencing on the first day. Rose said all of the NTCC administration would be available to serve students throughout their time here at Northeast Texas Community College.

Nearly 62,000 individuals have attended NTCC since it opened its doors in 1985. In an NTCC newsletter sent out by mail throughout the tri-county area, Rose noted that NTCC had changed his own life, just as it has changed the lives of countless students and employees throughout the area. “NTCC’s reputation for excellence and innovation is built on the dedication of faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members,” Rose said in the newsletter.

The college’s 40-year celebration will kick off on October 4 with a community picnic at the Eagle’s Nest on the campus plaza.

Rose said the anniversary will offer an opportunity for the college to reflect on its 40 years of success while also looking ahead to new things. “Together, we honor our past while looking forward to an even brighter future. Here’s to the next 40 years of transforming lives.”
