The Carter Blood Care Association will conduct a blood drive at Northeast Texas Community College, Tuesday, Feb. 2, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Student Union Building. A mini physical is performed prior to donation, which includes blood pressure and pulse checks. Body temperature and hemoglobin (red cell count) will also be checked. Following the donation, donors can learn their blood type and non-fasting cholesterol count. The units are separated into three components, red cells, plasma, and platelets. Northeast Texas Community College will host four blood drives during the academic year, two in the fall semester and two in the spring semester. “Each time that we host a blood drive over 100 lives are impacted by the Northeast Texas Community College donation,” said Student Activities Director Rico Willis. “The purpose is to encourage members of the campus community to save a life by donating blood.” The blood donated will be distributed into the local hospitals within this area, so the donations are vital to saving the lives of your community.
